What is in Neurological Physiotherapy?
Neurological physiotherapy is a specialized form of therapy that addresses the rehabilitation needs of individuals with neurological conditions. Whether following a stroke, spinal cord injury, or a condition like Parkinson’s disease, physiotherapists use a variety of treatments to improve movement, balance, strength, and overall functional ability. The primary goal is to restore the patient’s independence and quality of life by helping them regain function in affected areas of the body, reduce pain, and prevent further complications.
Brunnstrom Approach
The Brunnstrom Approach is a therapeutic method used primarily in the rehabilitation of stroke patients, especially those who have experienced hemiplegia (paralysis on one side of the body). The key idea behind the Brunnstrom Approach is that motor recovery after a stroke follows a predictable sequence of stages, which can be influenced by therapeutic interventions. These stages are based on the progression from reflexive and involuntary movement patterns to volitional and coordinated movements.

Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation
Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) is a rehabilitation technique that involves specific patterns of movement and stretching to promote motor recovery in patients with neurological impairments, such as stroke. It is based on the principles of neuroplasticity—the brain’s ability to reorganize itself and form new neural connections. PNF aims to enhance both voluntary movement and muscle strength through the stimulation of proprioceptors, which are sensory receptors that provide feedback about body position and movement.
